Shell Telephone Interview - for Employment

I would like to share some of the tips for Shell Telephone for Job Interview. Baru je pagi tadi interview. Sementara aku masih ingat ni, baik aku share terus. As you know, Shell is classified as one of the Top 25 Most Difficult Companies To Interview by Glassdoor (taken from Abe's Career Tool).

Anyway, prior in going through the phone interview, you have to make an appointment. Shell will email you to confirm the time which is suitable for you. I can choose between 9.00 am or 2.30 pm. So I choose 9.00 am.

The interview will be divided into 3 parts, according to the criteria they look for.

Part 1:

For this part, they will ask for your biggest accomplishment you have made so far in your life. Take note that you have to tell the interviewer about your greatest accomplishment which it was YOU that make all the effort to accomplish the goal that you have set so that you can impress them with the right stories and supporting details.

• What are the difficulties in handling the matter?
• What steps/ procedures you have taken to accomplish that? 
• What are the significance decisions you have made along the way in accomplishing that?
• If you are given one more time to do the same thing, how would you do it?
• Did you get any feedback from others about what you are doing?
• Lessons learned

Part 2:

This part mainly the interviewer would like to assess your relationship and how you deal with team/ people around you. You can use the same story as above (your greatest accomplishment) or a new story. I use a new story.

• So you have encountered any situation that you have to handle a team?
• What are your responsibilities as ___?
• How many groups/parties which is involved throughout the project?
• How do you communicate with those groups?
• How do you communicate with your team members? (face to face meeting, email, what not)
• Why do you choose that kind of communication?

Part 3:

You need to have a global mind, wide way of thinking when it comes to this part. You will be given 4 topics, choose one. You need to think quickly. Topics that I can choose from:

1. Diverse culture in multinational organization
2. Business competitors
3. Environmental hazards
4. Research & development

I choose topic number 1. The interviewer will then give a short definition about the topic.

1. What do you understand about the topic?
2. What are the disadvantages and advantages of having diverse culture in multinational organization?
3. 10 years from now, what are the expected future development from this culture diversity?
4. From the disadvantages you stated, they will ask you more question. How can you use encounter the disadvantages.. so on and so forth..

After the interview ended, the interviewer will ask you do you have any question for him. So you can ask how you are doing for the whole telephone interview. The interview lasted for an hour. Be prepared to wear your handsfree. The interview will also use this statement a lot: "Anything else?" (Asks for more points)

I'm not sure how I did for the telephone interview. Agak blur pagi ni. Ntah la.

p/s: I flunked most of my interviews I attended before. Hell yeah.
